im a one-man operation at the minute, a professional computer programmer working on my hobby project.
from my time working in bars ive seen punters pop out to bookies next door gambling in ways that i thought they were garunteed to loose, and come to slightly begrudge the bookies their business. i had to bite my tongue instead of offering: "give me your money and i'll place the bet for you and deliver any winnings back to you". i was sure that i could make a profit by just paying any winnings from my own pocket and keeping their losses for myself.
i took up the challenge to do the maths and beat the bookie on their terms, but only got to the point where i could predict the odds they would offer on football games. seeing the depths of involvement i'd have to go to in order to get that last few percent to make it profitable i dropped out of that effort.
several years later, while working late one night on a server problem and keeping an eye on the midweek soccer scores the penny dropped! i had the skills required to challenge the bookies in a different way. and a few years after that again, here we are, welcome to moobet.ie!
what's that? why not register as a charity myself? that was the initial plan but im just a humble computer programmer. i could get my head around the gambling legislation, but a quick dip in the legislation controlling charities in this sector turned me off. since i had no good option but to to remain a single-person entity at that point i came to the conclusion that any potential beneifts in being a charity were not worth the red tape.
now that we're live and you're reading this, maybe you have relevant knowledge of the charity sector and can offer us advice? if so please contact us!
